Description

Ensure maximum performance and rapid curing for your anaerobic adhesives with Loctite SF 7649 Acrylic Primer (52ml / 1.75oz). Engineered for demanding industrial applications, this commercial-grade activator significantly accelerates the cure speed of Loctite threadlockers, retaining compounds, and gasketing sealants.

LOCTITE® SF 7649™ is highly recommended for applications involving passive metals, inert surfaces, or large bond gaps. It maintains robust joint strength even when curing at low temperatures (below 15°C), ensuring reliable mechanical locking and sealing in cold-weather operations.

Why Choose Loctite SF 7649?

  • Optimized Cure Acceleration: Dramatically decreases fixture times of anaerobic adhesives on inactive metal surfaces.
  • Passive Surface Activation: Crucial for reliable bonding on stainless steel, aluminum, plated parts, and passive metals.
  • Low-Temperature Reliability: Formulated to offer excellent cure speed acceleration in ambient temperatures down to < 5°C.
  • Large Gap Performance: Ensures complete, deep curing of adhesives across larger joint tolerances and gaps.
  • Dual NSF Certified: Meets stringent commercial and residential safety standards for water systems and food-processing environments.

Directions for Industrial Application

  1. Surface Preparation: Ensure parts are clean and free of grease. For heavily contaminated surfaces, use a compatible industrial degreaser to prepare the substrate.
  2. Application: Spray or brush Loctite SF 7649 onto both mating surfaces. For very small gaps, treating a single surface is sufficient. (Note: Porous surfaces may require two coats).
  3. Evaporation: Allow the solvent sufficient time to fully evaporate under proper ventilation until surfaces are completely dry.
  4. Assembly: Apply the anaerobic adhesive such as a Loctite Threadlocker to one or both surfaces and assemble the parts immediately. Active parts should be bonded within 1 month of primer application, provided they are kept free from contamination.
Handling Notice: This activator contains highly flammable solvents. Ensure local ventilation is adequate. Check surface compatibility before bulk application, as the solvent can affect certain plastics or coatings. Under no circumstances should activator and liquid anaerobic adhesive be mixed directly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need to use Loctite SF 7649 on stainless steel fasteners?

Yes. Stainless steel, aluminum, and plated metals are passive (inactive) surfaces that lack the active metal ions needed to initiate the cure of anaerobic adhesives quickly. Using Loctite SF 7649 ensures a rapid, reliable cure and prevents weak joint strength on these substrates.

How long does Loctite SF 7649 remain active on a surface after application?

Once applied and dry, the activated parts can be stored for up to 1 month before applying the adhesive, provided they are kept clean and free from environmental contaminants, dust, or oils.

Can I mix Loctite SF 7649 directly into the adhesive bottle to speed up curing?

No. Under no circumstances should the liquid activator and liquid adhesive be mixed directly. Doing so will cause immediate polymerization and ruin the product. The primer must be applied to the substrate and allowed to dry completely before the adhesive is applied.

What is the difference between Loctite 7649 and Loctite 7471?

While both are anaerobic activators, Loctite SF 7649 is solvent-based (acetone) and optimized for rapid evaporation and low-temperature curing down to < 5°C. Loctite 7471 uses a different solvent base and is typically recommended where a longer open time or different plastic compatibility is required.
