Description

Loctite Grade C Threadlocker is a commercial-grade, medium-strength anaerobic adhesive engineered specifically for precision industrial assembly. Formulated to lock and seal fine-threaded nuts, bolts, and studs, this commercial threadlocker prevents component loosening caused by vibration, shock, and thermal expansion while remaining removable with standard hand tools.

Key Performance Features

  • Medium Strength & Viscosity: Provides reliable threadlocking and sealing for fine-threaded fasteners without risking permanent assembly locking.
  • Mil-Spec Compliant: Tested to the lot requirements of Military Specification Mil-S-22473E (regional approval).
  • Anaerobic Curing Mechanism: Cures efficiently in the absence of air when confined between tight-fitting metal surfaces.
  • Vibration & Shock Resistance: Protects critical assemblies, machinery, and equipment against tension relaxation under operational stress.

Technical Specifications

  • Product Name / Part Number: Loctite Grade C
  • Strength Class: Medium
  • Viscosity: Medium / Low-Viscosity
  • Color: Blue
  • Curing Type: Anaerobic
  • Primary Application: Threadlocking and thread sealing (fine threads)
  • Thermal Disassembly Limit: Localized heating to approx. 250 °C (for long engagement lengths)
  • Optimal Storage Temperature: 8 °C to 21 °C (Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C may compromise adhesive integrity)
  • Quality Standard: LMS dated August 23, 1999

Application & Assembly Guidelines

  • Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and oil-free using a degreasing agent.
  • Inactive Metals / Accelerators: For inactive metals or cold ambient temperatures, pre-treat threads with surface activators.
  • Dispensing Instructions:
    • Thru Holes: Apply several drops directly onto the bolt at the nut engagement zone.
    • Blind Holes: Apply drops inside the internal threads down to the bottom of the hole.
    • Sealing Applications: Dispense a 360° bead onto the male fitting's leading threads, leaving the first thread uncovered.
  • Disassembly & Cleanup: Remove using standard hand tools. If excessive thread length increases breakaway torque, apply localized heat (~250 °C) and disassemble while hot. Remove cured residue with solvent soaking and wire brushing.

Substrate & Chemical Compatibility

  • Not recommended for pure oxygen, oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or strong oxidizing materials.
  • Not recommended for use on thermoplastics due to the risk of stress cracking.
  • Verify aqueous washing solution compatibility prior to bonding to avoid cure inhibition.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is LOCTITE Grade C threadlocker military-specification approved?

Yes, LOCTITE® GRD C is tested to the lot requirements of Military Specification Mil-S-22473E under regional approvals.

How do engineers disassemble parts locked with Loctite Grade C?

Loctite Grade C is medium strength and can be disassembled using standard hand tools. For high engagement lengths where extra torque is required, apply localized heat to roughly 250 °C and disassemble while hot.

When is a surface activator required with Loctite Grade C?

An activator such as LOCTITE® Activator 7471 or 7649 is recommended when applying the adhesive to inactive metal surfaces or when working in low-temperature environments that slow curing.

Can Loctite Grade C be used on plastic fasteners?

No, anaerobic threadlockers including Loctite Grade C are not recommended for thermoplastic materials due to the risk of stress cracking.
