Description

Loctite 601 is a high strength, low viscosity green retaining compound engineered for maximum efficacy in bonding cylindrical fitting parts. This industrial-grade adhesive permanently joins metal components, preventing costly loosening and leakage caused by shock and vibration. Whether you are securing slip fitted assemblies or press fitted assemblies, this premium retaining compound provides a robust, leak-proof seal on all close fitting metal surfaces including steel pins and collars.

Why Choose Loctite 601?

  • Permanent Assembly Bonding: Cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces to form a permanent, high-strength bond.
  • Small Gap Performance: Low viscosity formula optimized for a maximum diametrical clearance of 0.1 mm, filling small gaps efficiently.
  • Quality Control Monitoring: Features built-in fluorescence that glows under UV light, allowing the product's presence to be easily monitored.
  • Heavy-Duty Reliability: Ideal for critical cylindrical joints requiring no mixing, offering medium cure speed and strong resistance to mechanical stress.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Maintains joint integrity across harsh operating conditions with a reliable service temperature range of -55 °C to +150 °C.

Technical Specifications

  • Viscosity: 100 - 150 mPa·s (cP) Brookfield

Simple Application Instructions

  1. Clean: For optimal results, clean all internal and external surfaces with a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and let dry. If dealing with inactive metals or slow cure speeds, treat surfaces with Activator 7471™ or 7649™.
  2. Apply: For slip fitted assemblies, apply adhesive around the leading edge of the pin and the inside of the collar. For press fits, apply thoroughly to both bond surfaces.
  3. Assemble: Assemble parts using a rotating motion for slip fits, or high press-on rates for press fits. The formula will begin curing once confined between close fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air. Keep parts undisturbed until handling strength is achieved (fixture time is 25 minutes on steel at 25 °C).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Loctite 601 used for?

Loctite 601 is a high strength, anaerobic retaining compound designed for the permanent bonding of cylindrical fitting parts. It is specifically formulated to prevent assemblies from loosening and leaking due to severe operational shock, vibration, and thermal shifts.

Can Loctite 601 be disassembled?

No, not with standard hand tools alone. Because it creates a permanent high-strength bond, disassembly requires applying localized heat to the assembly to approximately 250 °C and pulling the components apart while they are still hot.

Does Loctite 601 work on plastic?

No. Loctite 601 is an anaerobic adhesive specifically engineered for close-fitting metal surfaces, particularly steel. It is not normally recommended for use on plastics—especially thermoplastic materials—where stress cracking of the plastic could occur.

Is Loctite 601 safe for oxygen-rich environments?

No. Loctite 601 is not recommended for use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen-rich systems, and it should never be selected as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidizing materials.
