WD-40 sprays and other aerosols lack anti-friction qualities. Because the spray wets the surface and then immediately evaporates, squeaks are only momentarily silenced. These sprays work well to unfreeze frozen nuts and bolts but are ineffective at lubricating.

It can endure temperatures between -43°C and 450°C (-45°F to 232°F).
