Loctite 603 Retaining Compound 50ml
Loctite 603 is a high strength, low viscosity green retaining compound engineered for maximum efficacy in bonding cylindrical fitting parts. This industrial-grade adhesive permanently joins metal components, preventing costly loosening and leakage caused by shock and vibration. Whether you are securing roller bearings or oil-impregnated bushings, this premium retaining compound provides a robust, leak-proof seal on all close-fitting metal surfaces—including sintered bearings and parts where consistently clean surfaces cannot be assured.
Why Choose Loctite 603?
- High Oil Tolerance: Specially formulated to cure effectively even when surfaces cannot be consistently or completely cleaned of manufacturing oils or contaminants.
- Engineered for Bearings: Optimized specifically for retaining roller bearings, slip-fitted assemblies, and oil-impregnated bushings into housings.
- Vibration and Shock Resistance: Prevents loosening, slippage, and micro-movement by fully filling the microscopic gaps between mating parts.
- Low Viscosity Application: With a viscosity of 125 mPa·s (cP), it flows smoothly into tight clearances for maximum coverage and reliability.
- Robust Temperature Limits: *Maintains exceptional joint integrity and performance across a broad operating temperature range of -65 °F to 300 °F (-54 °C to +149 °C).
Technical Specifications
- Product Type: Anaerobic Retaining Compound
- Strength: High Strength

- Certifications: Registered to NSF Category P1 (for use as a sealant where there is no possibility of food contact in and around food processing areas)
Simple Application Instructions
- Clean: For best results, clean all internal and external surfaces with a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and allow to dry. (Though Loctite 603 features high oil tolerance, initial cleaning optimizes ultimate performance).
- Apply: For Slip Fitted Assemblies, apply adhesive around the leading edge of the pin and the inside of the collar. For Press Fitted Assemblies, apply adhesive thoroughly to both bond surfaces. For Shrink Fitted Assemblies, coat the adhesive onto the pin and heat the collar to create sufficient clearance.
- Assemble: Assemble the parts using a rotating motion for slip fits to ensure good coverage, or use high press-on rates for press fits. The formula will begin curing once confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air. Parts should not be disturbed until sufficient handling strength is achieved.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Loctite 603 used for?
Loctite 603 is a high strength, low-viscosity anaerobic retaining compound designed for the bonding of cylindrical fitting parts. It is specifically formulated to prevent cylindrical components and fasteners from loosening and leaking due to severe operational shock, vibration, and minor surface contamination.
Can Loctite 603 be disassembled?
No, not with standard hand tools alone. Loctite 603 creates a permanent, high-strength industrial bond. For disassembly, you must apply localized heat to the assembly to approximately 250 °C and pull the components apart while they are still hot.
Does Loctite 603 work on plastic?
No. Loctite 603 is an anaerobic adhesive engineered exclusively for metal substrates (especially steel). It is not normally recommended for use on plastics, particularly thermoplastic materials, where stress cracking of the plastic could occur.
Is Loctite 603 safe for food-handling environments?
Loctite 603 is registered to NSF Category P1. This means it is approved and safe for use as a sealant in and around food processing areas, provided there is no direct possibility of food contact.
