The following procedures should be considered:\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAll surfaces must be dry, clean and with a suitable profile\u003cbr\u003eto facilitate bonding to the substrate.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIf surface is oily or greasy use Devcon Fast Cleaner 2000\u003cbr\u003eSpray\/Cleaner Blend 300 to degrease the surface.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRemove any existing paint, rust or other contamination\u003cbr\u003efrom the surface by abrasive blasting or other mechanical\u003cbr\u003etechniques. Further reference can be made here to the\u003cbr\u003eDevcon Metal filled user guide.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAluminium repairs: Oxidation of aluminium surfaces will\u003cbr\u003ereduce the adhesion of an epoxy to a surface.\u003cbr\u003eThis film must be removed before repairing the surface,\u003cbr\u003eby mechanical means such as grit-blasting, abrading or\u003cbr\u003echemical means.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eProvide a “profile” on the metal surface by roughening the\u003cbr\u003esurface. This should be done ideally by grit blasting (8-40\u003cbr\u003emesh grit), or by grinding with a coarse wheel or abrasive\u003cbr\u003edisc pad. An abrasive disc may be used provided white\u003cbr\u003emetal is revealed. Do not ’feather edge’ epoxy materials.\u003cbr\u003eEpoxy material must be ’locked in’ by defined edges and\u003cbr\u003ea good 3-5 mil profile.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eMetal that has been handling sea water or other salt\u003cbr\u003esolutions should be grit blasted and high pressure water\u003cbr\u003eblasted and left overnight to allow any salts in the metal\u003cbr\u003eto ’sweat’ to the surface. Repeat blasting may be\u003cbr\u003erequired to ’sweat out’ all the soluble salts. A test for\u003cbr\u003echloride contamination should be performed prior to\u003cbr\u003eany epoxy application. The maximum soluble salts left on\u003cbr\u003ethe substrate should be no more than 40 ppm (parts per\u003cbr\u003emillion).\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eChemical cleaning with Devcon Fast Cleaner 2000 Spray\/\u003cbr\u003eCleaner Blend 300 should follow all abrasive preparation.\u003cbr\u003eThis will help to remove all traces of sandblasting, grit, oil,\u003cbr\u003egrease, dust or other foreign substances.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eUnder cold working conditions, heating the repair area\u003cbr\u003eto 38ºC-43º C immediately before applying any of\u003cbr\u003eDevcon Epoxies is recommended. This procedure dries\u003cbr\u003eoff any moisture, contamination or solvents and assists\u003cbr\u003ethe epoxy in achieving maximum adhesion to the substrate.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAlways try to make the repair as soon as possible after\u003cbr\u003ecleaning the substrate, to avoid oxidation or flash rusting.\u003cbr\u003eIf this is not practical, a general application of FL-10 Primer\u003cbr\u003ewill keep metal surfaces from flash rusting.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch6\u003eADDITIONAL SURFACE PREPARATION INFORMATION\u003c\/h6\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003eIf abrasive blasting is not possible and expanded metal\u003cbr\u003ecannot be welded in place then the Surface Wetting Agent\u003cbr\u003eis essential where maximum adhesion to substrate is\u003cbr\u003erequired. This should be applied at 250 to 500 microns\u003cbr\u003eafter which the DFence Blok can be applied immediately.\u003cbr\u003eFor bridging large gaps or holes it is essential to place fibreglass sheet, expanded metal or other suitable mechanical\u003cbr\u003efasteners across the area prior to application of the DFence\u003cbr\u003eBlok.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003ch6\u003eMIXING\u003c\/h6\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003eAdd the hardener to the resin then mix thoroughly\u003cbr\u003eusing a suitable mixing paddle or suitable size jiffy type\u003cbr\u003emixer. Mix in such a fashion that the material is thoroughly\u003cbr\u003edispersed from top to bottom of the container until\u003cbr\u003ehomogenous.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003ch6\u003eAPPLICATION\u003c\/h6\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003eSpread the material over the prepared surface with a putty\u003cbr\u003eknife or spatula pressing firmly into all cracks and voids to\u003cbr\u003eensure maximum surface contact and avoid trapping air.\u003cbr\u003eA film of at least 5mm and up to 15mm can be applied in\u003cbr\u003eone coat if required even onto vertical surfaces without\u003cbr\u003esagging.
